The current building complex of the Penc–Cserhátliget Primary School has evolved gradually since the early 18th century, and the present extension project is considered a continuation of this process. In place of the sections to be demolished, we designed a green‑roofed central tract that connects the existing and the new pitched‑roof classroom wings. This area accommodates the main communal spaces, including the atrium and the dining hall. The courtyards formed between the building parts each have a distinct character and functionally define the outdoor spaces. By preserving the existing structures, reusing demolished building materials on site, applying renewable construction materials, and incorporating passive building‑energy solutions, a favourable energy and carbon balance can be achieved. In positioning the new spaces, we aimed for a modern and architecturally optimal layout: the classrooms face east, are located on the ground floor, and have direct access to the garden.
